Our 16 Year Journey With Cacao
Sacred Earth Medicine is the inspired co-creation of Sjha'ra Taylor, Shaa Taylor and the Cacao Deva.
How It All Began
Spanning decades and multiple continents, our story is a tale of adventure, serendipity, faith, divine timing, and, of course, a sprinkle of magic!
Our cacao journey began back in 2010 on the shores of Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala. Heading for the UK, we were turned away from Heathrow Airport for not having the correct visas. On a whim, we made our way to San Marcos La Laguna, where we had both visited 10 years earlier - only a month apart - before we had even met
Meeting the Chocolate Shaman
It was here that our true journey began, when we were blessed to meet and work with Keith, affectionately known as the Chocolate Shaman. Over several months, we communed daily with cacao and were honoured to counsel deeply with the Spirit of Cacao – the Cacao Deva, IxCacao, AKA Mama Cacao.
These months truly changed the trajectory of our lives, as our eyes were opened to cacao’s medicinal and magical properties. Our deeper mission was born – to share this ancient plant medicine far and wide and open as many hearts as possible.
Becoming a Bridge
Our original Sacred Mayan Cacao brand came to life through importing and rebranding Keith’s Mendoza's Lava Love Cacao, as it was known back then. For the next six years, we ran Chocolate Yoga workshops and distributed Australia’s first Ceremonial Grade Cacao.
As pioneers in bringing Ceremonial Cacao to the east coast, we quickly became a bridge—educating the community, helping Australians connect with this medicine, and supporting them to hold their own cacao ceremonies.
Listening to the Cacao Deva
Change was in the air. As Keith’s reputation blossomed, his work attracted the attention of an American entrepreneur who bought into the business. Unfortunately, his new business model didn’t align with our mission, so sadly we parted ways.
We held firm to our vision and managed to keep the faith, trusting in the Spirit of Cacao.
The Cacao Deva made it clear: a perfect high vibe cacao was out there for us—we just had to find it!
Finding Our Farm
We had many unsuccessful attempts tracking down a cacao that even came close to our standards for ceremonial grade. After 18 months of tuning in with the Cacao Deva in ceremony, searching across Central and South America, sampling cacao from across the globe, we finally heard the call for Peru!
Again, magic was guiding us, when Sjha’ra happened upon a tiny shop selling whole-bean Chuncho cacao, so we could trace the thread of magic to the farm…
This was the very beginning of our relationship with the beautiful, family-run farm that now lovingly grows and prepares our impeccable Ceremonial Cacao.
